Sacred Sounds Yoga

Sacred Sounds Yoga, located in the heart of Greenwich Village, is a beautiful, serene studio that offers a variety of yoga classes including Flow, Candlelit Yoga, Core, Ashtanga, Aerial and more.

I signed up for a Flow class taught by Ikaika – a spirited yoga instructor originally from Hawaii. At first glance, you could tell Ikaika has loads of heart and is a gentle spirit. He stressed working at our own pace while at the same time encouraged us to challenge ourselves. His challenge worked because by the end of the class I was actually doing a headstand! An accomplishment I was quite proud of.

The basics of the Flow class is a Vinyasa-inspired introduction to the fundamentals of yoga. It is recommended for newbies, but don’t let that fool you. There’s plenty of challenge and many of the students were quite advanced. My muscles absolutely felt it the next day.

Using the straps as a yoga hammock, students work with gravity as the hammock can be used to hold the entire body or parts of the body in the air or on the ground. You can hang upside down or be rocked like a baby as your full body is engulfed by the hammock. It looks heavenly. Once I saw the aerial room with the afternoon sun shining against the wood floor, I knew I would be back.

You might also want to check out their assortment of workshops, intensive teacher training, yoga4cancer, as well as pre-natal and post natal classes.

This contest is over – but please visit the studio at www.sacredsoundsyoga.com.
