Grab a Spot at Hot Spot Yoga!

Hands down, the best yoga studio view in New York City! Right off the Belt Parkway – in the heart of the nautical neighborhood of Sheepshead Bay – is Hot Spot Yoga. Located on the 4th floor, with floor to ceiling windows, you get a glimpse of where Jamaica Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean. And this view can catapult you straight outta Brooklyn into your own little paradise.

I signed up for an 8:30 AM class on a Saturday with Marina. Based on the number of students who knew Marina, as well as each other, I would say she has a strong following. The average temperature of the room at this studio is generally heated to between 90-100 degrees. But because it was raining and humid on the day I showed up, I think the room probably felt hotter (and definitely more humid). I was sweating A LOT during the entire class. Marina started us with some yoga basics but quickly accelerated the sequence of the flow.  It felt like a true Power Vinyasa class since we were moving at a fast clip. The class was filled with students of all levels and I was impressed by the advanced ability of many of the older students in the class. In fact, some of them were by far the best students there. This continues to fill me with hope! She offered variations and modifications for poses that were out of reach for beginners and was somehow able to keep all levels moving and challenged.  I found out that Marina also teaches Reiki and crystal workshops that incorporates yoga, meditation, crystal healing and Reiki (sounds like something to check out down the road, especially in the room with the view!). Hot Spot Yoga offers free yoga classes on the beach in the summer, paddleboard yoga, and Buti Yoga (you tube it!!).
